   About Cave Info
=================

 Welcome to Cave Info — a personal journal documenting my journeys through the caves and disused mines of the UK. As a software developer by trade, I couldn't resist building a custom site from scratch and turbocharging it with a few extra features. Because why not?

  Why the site exists
---------------------

 Cave Info is a living record of where I've been and the ongoing list of trips I'm working my way through. It brings together route notes, SRT pitch previews, photographs, and video logs all in one central place.

 Everything here is built from first-hand experience, so the site will grow naturally as I explore new underground systems and write up old logbooks.

 I've been caving for about 3 years now. which places me firmly in the "experienced novice" category. My goal is simply to document my trips, and hopefully, other cavers will find the information handy. I usually film my outings, and after hearing from several people on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/@CaveExplorerDan) and in person, that my videos helped them plan their own trips, building this site felt like the next logical step.

 **A quick disclaimer:** Please don't treat this content as an official "how-to" guide. I am still learning, which means I'll make mistakes or approach a pitch in a way that other cavers might disagree with, you get the picture right? — though hopefully less often as my experience grows!

###  Respecting the Caving Community

 While building this site, I gathered feedback from fellow cavers. Most of it was overwhelmingly positive, but a few people raised a crucial point regarding sensitive formations and new discoveries: detailed route descriptions can inadvertently lead to damage if less considerate visitors show up.

 That's a fair point, and I've taken it on board. For now, I am restricting detailed descriptions for these sensitive caves. If the site grows, I may look into adding a request-for-access or vetting system for trusted cavers.

 I also recognise that many sensitive caves aren't easily accessible to the general public anyway. Your average Joe isn't buying all the gear, doing all the training and descending 100ft into a shaft unless they really want to.

As a general rule of thumb, if a cave's access details are already published on the CNCC website, I consider it fair game to log here.

 I hope you find the site useful — see you underground!
